In between Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas (all high holy days around here) I was working on a little quilt for a special little person.  I had hoped to have it done in time for Christmas but that didn't happen...however, I did get it finished and was able to present it to Sophie on the 13th Day of Christmas!!  I should have taken a picture of Sophie with the quilt - she was quite taken!  She immediately spread it out on her living room floor, ran to gather some fake food, and then sat down and announced she was having a picnic.  Be still my heart!

Sophie's mom showed me a pattern for a quilt with bunny faces on it and asked me if I could make one for Sophie - she is quite obsessed with bunnies!  How could I refuse?  Little sleeping bunnies - all machine-appliqued, except for the faces which were hand stitched.

Sophie will use this quilt on her new "big girl bed."  At least that's the hope!  Her mom has been busy making her "big girl room" into a place where Sophie will want to be...it's so cute and this quilt will fit in with everything she already has.

The quilt is backed with pink flannel - it's super soft and warm.  It's been the usual around here, rainy and cold, which is typical for Seattle in January, so flannel-backed quilts are kind of a must!

I signed the quilt on the binding - didn't want to put on a label.  But I did want Sophie to know that I made it for her and that I put love into every stitch.  Sophie and her family have been such a gift to me - they have brought me so much joy and happiness, and they have taught me so much, too!  Thanks to them, I now have an appreciation for real Chinese food...not the Americanized stuff!

Nothing special.  It actually looked better in person than it does here...oh well, I tried!   Making a quilt for someone and giving it to them is really a wonderful feeling...there was a time when I could not even imagine giving a quilt away!!  So I would call that growth...or senility...

This was quilted by Vicki Stratton, she lives close by and does a good job.  I would have quilted it in my machine but it went on-the-fritz and is still in the shop - I hope I get it back soon!  My friend Marsha was kind enough to loan me her machine so I would have something to sew on and it's exactly like my old machine...which I'm missing a lot!  It never broke down like the new one does!!!

Dear Sophie - I wish you many sweet dreams and long slumbers under this pink bunny quilt.  I hope it will keep you warm and comfy-cozy!  And when you grow so big that your toes stick out from under the end of the quilt, I hope I'm still around to make you a new one!  xoxo, Auntie Nan
