Quilt Group Friday...
We had a few over-achievers this month at our meeting - people who actually finished more than one, two or three quilts! That's the equivalent of seeing a full eclipse while riding a unicorn at a 75% off fabric sale! Sit back and enjoy the show - I've got some amazing quilts to show you but first let's start with this thrifted pillow!
Stephanie has a knack for finding real gems at the thrift shop and this is one of her latest finds...she purchased this piece of stitchery for $1.50 and then stitched it onto a pillow. She is going to put it out on her front porch to brighten it up - it just says Welcome, no? It's hard to imagine, even if this isn't your cup of tea, that someone could do so much work on something and then have it end up at a thrift shop...but I've got news for you, that is where most of my stuff will end up and probably most of yours, too! My kids don't want my crap - they will sell whatever they can, take the cash and buy a new big screen TV or iPad...nothing is sacred anymore! Oy vey!
Stephanie brought her colorful quilt made from scraps (her specialty) back to show now that it's all quilted and bound. Terry did a great job on the quilting!
Speaking of Terry, she showed us a quilt she just finished quilting for Neva. Some people like to wait until their quilt is completely bound before showing it but since Neva wasn't there, we decided we would just have a little looksy! This quilt was "won" by Neva at our Christmas gift exchange - pretty amazing that someone would give this away - wish I could remember who the generous gal was?!
Terry showed us this top she just finished, she commented that the fabric was dated but all of us loved it - it's what we all call a "yummy" quilt. When this one is quilted and bound it will be soft and warm, making it perfectly yummy!
I'm not sure what the name of this quilt is, The Be-Attitudes? Terry has been working on it for a while now and it is really wonderful. Her hand work is so amazing, only to be matched by her machine work! In my next life I'm going to be Terry!
Another one from Terry...this Christmas circle quilt has orang-y red and tangy green fabrics - not what you might think of when it comes to Christmas but it's dang happy, and if that's not Christmas then I don't know what is!
Yes, another quilt from Terry...our over-achiever for the month, possibly the year...this one is her Christmas gift quilt - and I think our group helped make those blocks for her. We all made gift blocks a few years back...mine are still in the "aging process" and maybe I should try to dig them out, they might be ready! Love this one Terry!
This was the "grand finale" for Terry...the show stealer - the coup-de-group...Terry's work on this quilt is truly beautiful, as in museum-quality beautiful! This is her Easter quilt but I'll bet no chocolate bunny will ever get close to it!
The beautiful appliqued eggs that "pop" are pretty cool and just look at her quilting! The zig-zag around the blocks makes it look like ric-rac! Notice the border and ALL THAT WORK! And her corners with the baskets - wow!! I made an Easter quilt this year, too...but I don't have enough spine to show you it in this post - no...I'll wait until you've forgotten about THIS quilt before I show you mine!
Denise showed us her square in a square quilt - we all love this pattern - it's like the circle quilt, we all need a square in a square!
Barbara was stitching down the binding on this quilt at our meeting - it's almost done! Barbara made this from scraps left over from another quilt - she's good at using up what she has!
Helen brought her latest Christmas quilt to show - another "kitchen sink" sort of quilt that our master-piecer worked her magic on! Love the border fabric, it's from Riley Blake Designs.
The last quilt for today is also from Helen. She made this with a jelly roll, it's pretty sweet!
Wasn't that fun? You should have been there to see it all in person! Aside from my garish Easter quilt, yours truly did have another finished quilt to show, but I'm going to save that for another time, too...it's good to leave you wanting more, but after this show I'm not sure how much more you could want!
