Before Fall officially arrives and sends me head first into HalloThanksMas overdrive, I want to show you my new flower/favorite quilt. I made this quilt after seeing one Helen made, which reminded me of one I had made years ago and then gave to a dear friend. I decided I really needed another one, as it's really the only way I can keep flowers in my house!
I'm going to bequeath all of my quilts to my Rosie Ann Marie, pictured above. She loves my quilts. The boy told me he would like to have my quilts so he could sell them on ebay. The girl said she wanted some of them, like 2 or 3, she's now a minimalist, so the rest she would probably give to Good Will. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I would love to find a quilt at Good Will, just not one of my own! So I'm either going to give them all away before my untimely demise, or I'll leave them all to Rosie, my devoted little Prozac Pet.
Made with scraps, a simpler pattern you will not find - it's just squares. When it came time for me to add the border, I opted to do something a little different and machine-stitched the vine and leaves on...it took a bit of time but wasn't as long as you might think. And I love how it came out.
This is machine-quilted by Moi and I even outlined the border vines and leaves! I really patted myself on the back with that move! I wanted this quilt to be truly usable so I backed it with a light-weight denim - now when we go on a picnic I don't have to worry about the back of the quilt getting stained...just the front!
It's just happy, no? I'm all about things that make me happy these days...trying to focus on all the good things in my life. This picture is a great example of that...I can see the bright and happy quilt or the lawn that is screaming for help! I choose bright and happy...I'll let the mister answer those screams!
As the rains return to Seattle, I'll take comfort with my new quilt as I snuggle in to watch Downton Abbey on the telly so I'll be all caught up and ready for the movie when it hits the screens this weekend. I'm as excited as the Crawley Family to have the Queen visit Downton - can't wait to hear what the Dowager Countess of Grantham has to say about that! Oh, did you know you can now rent a room, via Airbnb at Highclere? Yep, $186.00 will get you a nice little room in the 300 room castle...I think the mister and I must go, it would be so rude not to - and I'll take my flower quilt with me because as we all know, castles are a bit drafty!
