I hesitate to mention this but if you live close to me and you love antiques, then you should know about the antique shop on 202 in Fall City. I'm somewhat of a regular there and as such I don't want you all to rush over there - because really, if you find something cute and wonderful, fun and funky, or totally useless but unique, then shouldn't I have it?!?! Especially the useless and unique stuff, that's my specialty! Occasionally I do get very lucky when I'm there, like when I found this quilt top for $35.
Who doesn't like the Dresden Plate pattern? And those colors - soft and happy - this one just speaks to me and this is what is says, "I'm SO happy you found me and saved me and now get to live in your home where you can see me and I can make you happy every day!" Yep, word for word, that's what this one says!
This top was all hand-pieced and the "plates" were hand-stitched to the backing fabric. It was not the best of hand-work as some of the stitches were rather large so I decided to machine-stipple this quilt rather tightly so I could secure all of the seams that were not that secure! This top was in almost perfect condition; there are 3 or 4 spots on it that I wasn't able to get out but I can't even find them now.
Since I didn't know where the quilt top came from, I decided this backing fabric was perfect. It's certainly has all of the right colors and I liked that it was about postage/traveling - because maybe my quilt top has traveled - who knows?
It's now on our guest room bed, and it goes perfectly with everything else in the room. I'm excited for our next guest to stay in the "vintage quilt room"...or as the mister says, "The old blanket room." (Those are fightin' words for a quilter...quilts are not blankets, they are QUILTS!) But he'll never change so I won't waste my energy.
I'm glad it stopped snowing/raining long enough for me to take some pictures. This is my new favorite quilt, it's queen size and measures 68" by 80" and was quilted with Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 so it's super soft and just down-right yummy. If I didn't already own it I would want to!
