We usually have about 7 weeks between our December meeting and our January quilt group meetings...long enough that we really miss seeing each other! So when we do get together there is always so much to catch up on. We also usually have a lot of quilts to see but this January I think we all got off to a slow start! The quilts we did see at our meeting, however, were very impressive and definitely inspired me to get back to work!
Jenny has 3 busy kids, and she works and volunteers and yet she still had time to finish a lot of projects in the last several weeks - this was one of them. She started this table runner about 10 years ago - it reminded some of us of the fish "in the floor" at Seatac airport. Very cool!
Jenny is working on this Alice in Wonderland quilt for a baby gift - I think she said she purchased the machine-embroidered blocks from ETSY?? They are really nice! Jenny asked our opinion on adding hearts and diamonds to the fabric...I think the consensus was no...but now that I see the picture I think yes!
This beauty you've seen before - about two years ago when Jenny was still working on individual blocks. These are all hand-paper-pieced and hand embroidered, and those corner setting blocks are all pieced, too!!! This is Jenny's State Flower quilt - or as I like to call it, "A Once In A Lifetime Quilt!" It's pretty amazing - way to go Jen!!
Isn't this cheater fabric cute?? Stephanie is going to use this as the backing for a baby quilt and the picture below is the top of the quilt:
Just to be clear, those are plusses, not crosses. I love the starkness/simplicity of the top with the playful colors of the backing - I feel like every quilt Stephanie makes is a lesson in art - and that's a good thing!
Marsha brought the very first quilt she made for us to see. And it's her. Marsha still makes quilts with reproduction fabrics - it's her style which we all love. For a first quilt this one is pretty dang perfect and complicated, too!! Way to go Marsha!
After our show and tell we sat down for a Chinese New Year feast! Thanks Diane for making everything so very nice for us! It was all yummy!
We always learn a thing or two at our meetings...did you know the center of a heart is called the cleavage?
That's the show - short and sweet - and yours truly actually had something to show as well but I'm saving my big reveal until it's done...as always, don't hold your breath!
