Life is unpredictable...one day my dad is fine and the next day, he's got cancer. Then one day he has surgery and the cancer is removed and now he is doing great. One day my mom is fine and the next she's got two blood clots in her leg! Then mom starts taking meds and the clots shrink and now she's doing okay. One day I cut my finger, it probably needed stitches but I didn't have time to run to the doc so I glued it together. Next day I had an infected finger. Then I found time for the doctor and now my finger will live to point another day. One day the mister is a rascally beast and the next he buys me a kitchen trash can with an open and close sensor out of the blue! (A trash can!!! Godfrey!) See? Unpredictable! What isn't unpredictable is my quilt group and the amazing talent they have - here, have yourself a look!
These are blocks that our group made for someone who was moving, only she didn't move and the blocks have now reached a ripe old age and so we decided that they needed to be sewn together, quilted and the quilt donated to American Hero Quilts. So a good plan was improved upon! Terry volunteered to finish this quilt for our group - thanks Terry!
Janet showed us her fabric bowls. She took strips of fabric and wrapped them around clothesline and then, using a zig-zag stitch, she sewed the wrapped clothesline into a bowl...it sounds and looks easy...but I'm sure it's not! Janet used the book, Sewing Pottery by Machine, to help her create this unique bowl. Thanks for showing us how to make fabric bowls Janet, I might just be crazy enough to try one!
This is Janet's quilt and the light coming through it makes it look a bit off and kind of blurry...or maybe it's just the pic/photographer! This quilt was one of our group projects - we all made a block for Janet who asked for gray and yellow...or maybe just gray, we all got confused so some had yellow and some didn't! That's how we work!
Janet made this Seahawks quilt for one of her 12's - she just needs to sew on the border then the top will be finished. Y'all know Seahawk's fans are called 12's, right? A football team has 11 players so the Seahawks fans are called 12's, as in the 12th man. No worries, all you need to know is the Hawks will be back in August and with any luck at all we'll have a great season! I'm thinking the mister needs a Seahawks quilt this year - might help muffle his screaming when the game is on!
Jenny made this amazing quilt by cutting 9-patch blocks in half and sewing them to a white triangle. I think she said the pattern is from the book, Jelly Roll Quilts in a Weekend, but don't quote me! Do any of you remember the book, Quilt in a Day? It came out in the 80's...probably when most of you were born...and back then it was revolutionary! It was entirely possible to make a quilt top in a day...as long as that day had 48 hours!
This might be a little hard to see but it's a picture of a very cute bag Barbara and her grand-daughter made. I wrote down in my notes that it's made with an outer fabric and a lining and each one is one solid piece...could that be right?!??! My hand-writing is so bad not even I can decipher it!
Helen's star quilt is all done...quilted and bound and ain't she a beaut?!!!! Look closely at her no-border border...very clever of her!
Denise made this wonky strip quilt - it's pretty dang wonderful! The wonkiness gives this quilt movement! Denise didn't put any batting in this quilt because those strips are sewn to a foundation, so it didn't need any. It would make a great tablecloth - just sayin'.
Denise also brought in her latest projects to show us - this very sweet cross-stitched tree with buttons. We all thought this should make another appearance at our Christmas gift exchange! Her red bird is also cross-stitched - perfectly!
Now, this bunny picture, beaded by Denise, on paper (!) really had us going! It's almost Easter and all of us wished we could have this in our home! Isn't it just amazing?!?! Denise is our resident queen of all things difficult, at least that's what I think because everything she does is very intricate and precise!! I'm all about simple!!! Which reminds me of what Terry told us at our meeting, "I quilt like I cook, if it has more than 4 ingredients I don't make it!"
You've seen this one before, it was made by Stephanie but now it is all finished, quilted and bound and ready to be loved! Stephanie calls this quilt, "Hippy Huts" and I think that's a pretty fitting name! I've got to get my house blocks sewn together...maybe this month - I mean next month!
This is Stephanie's "trash quilt"...it's made from scraps of fabric that I would throw in the trash...just look at how small some of them are!!! Sheesh! And she turned "trash" into this fabulous quilt...I should be ashamed of myself! Waste not, Want not! Isn't that how the saying goes??? So does that mean if I use every single little scrap I'll never want any more fabric? Hahahahaha...as if. Don't you just love the use of the black and white fabric? And no, she didn't piece that but she could've/would've!!!
This is just so sweet!!! Terry made this darling Easter egg quilt with fabric she purchased at Hobby Lobby...and by the way, their fabric is A-Okay! Maybe a step or two above Joann's! I do buy fabric at Joann's occasionally, but only their Kona Cotton solids, which seems to be pretty good. I also purchase my batting there, with one of their 40% off coupons, which makes it a nice deal but then I have to stand in line with the other 300 people and wait to be checked out...it's SO frustrating to shop there!
Terry finished up this red, black and white "cat" quilt. The cat fabrics are pretty cute! I think Terry made this several years ago but she doesn't often have time to quilt her own quilts, she's too busy quilting for everyone else!
I'll end with this picture of Jenny's sweet little bunny. This bunny was made from an antique quilt and I wish I could tell you all the details but just know the quilt was very old and this bunny will not become a chew toy!
I HOPE THE EASTER BUNNY FINDS HIS WAY TO YOUR HOME AND THAT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY HAVE A WONDERFUL EASTER!
