Have you heard of Donna Eines? She is a real quilter who makes real quilts. Hand-quilted quilts. Hand-quilted with stitching so close you would swear it was done by machine and that Donna Eines is crazy - but in such a good way! At the Quilter's Anonymous Quilt Show held every Spring in Monroe, Washington, I was introduced to Donna Eines and her beautiful quilts - so today I want to show you some of her amazing work!
This incredible quilt is hand-quilted...up close it's really incredible to see just how small her stitching is - about 1/4 of an inch - mind-boggling! Donna said she is able to do two quilts a year.
Donna marks her quilt with a water soluable pen before quilting and she marks the entire thing at one time - just look at all those stitches!
Look at all of those ribbons! She is an award-winning quilter! The quilt above has hand-quilting every 1/4-inch, too, look closely and you'll see the curves she quilted into this piece of art!
Check out the border on the quilt above - it wasn't enough the center is full of pieced triangles!! Donna's quilt are impressive for the piecing alone - they all have very intricate designs.
Once in every quilter's life, there needs to be a quilt like this...a real quilt...not that a 9-patch quilt isn't real, but I think you get my meaning...a real quilt is a work of art - one that stands out from all the others because of the work involved - the hours and hours and hours of work!
Every quilt had ribbons on it - I've never seen so many ribbons before! You can click on the pictures to see more of the details.
Again, more ribbons and look at those curves! Donna's quilting is as precise as her piecing, not a flaw anywhere to be seen - not that I was looking!
Donna also incorporated some trapunto into her quilts - making them three dimensional - this quilt is truly beautiful!
This is my favorite Donna Eines quilt. She hand-stitched the eagle out of sheer navy blue fabric over the pieced star - what a creation! I love everything about this quilt and the hand-quilting is spectalar!
Donna was the featured artist at the quilt show. Every year a different artist is there with her quilts and I have to say, Donna is one of the best I've ever seen. Her applique is so beautifully done and her stitching is practically invisible - and then there's her quilting - Donna is a real quilter! She was working on a quilt during the show - her hands never stop!
As you can see, Donna quilts all of her quilts with just a small hoop - and she's every bit as lovely as her quilts. I'm glad I could meet Donna and introduce her to you...she is truly an inspiration!
