The mister is hoarse this morning from screaming all weekend long over football games. His teams lost big-time...the worst was the Redskins loss...he was prone on the sofa in his Redskins jersey, Redskins sweatpants, covered with his Redskins fleece blanket, drinking from his Redskins mug...and none of it worked...the mojo was gone. He skulked around the house, sad and depressed, so in an effort to make him snap out of it, I was forced to share the last of the Krispie Kreme Donuts with him...I took most of the donuts to the girls at church but had squirreled away the leftovers for my own personal enjoyment...I'm fine sharing most things, but I really hate sharing donuts...but I did...because that's the kind of gal I am, my momma would be so proud.
Target has glow-in-the-dark fangs, 8 to a package for $1.00...what a steal! They are a nice green-ish color but you can also find them in white. I used some Hot Tamales for eyes and turned the Krispie Kremes into Krispie SCREAMS!!!
The fangs are a bit stiff, they want to open so be sure to "crimp" them lightly at the fold with a pair of pliers so they will stay semi-closed. Notice the donut on the bottom right...oops! Forgot to crimp that one! Also, if you do this, make sure your donuts are not warm, right from the oven...they need to sit for at least an hour or two so they will hold the fangs in place. If they are too fresh they will be too soft and the fangs will open! I wanted to add little mice, coming out of the mouth, like the white mouse in the pic above, but the mice had a very strong plastic odor so I decided they might not be food safe. The girls loved them...my theory is if the girls are eating they can't talk, and if they aren't talking they have to listen to me...it's still a theory.
The donuts kind of take on their own personalities! I like using glazed donuts because the glaze "cracks" just a bit, making them look a little more scary...but any donut works and you can use any kind of round candy for eyes...M&M's, Good and Plenty, Dots...whatever flips your cape!
This next treat starts with a trip outside...find a nice little tree and snip off some branches. Not too big, not too thin, about 1/4-inch in diameter and make them between 6 and 7-inches long. Make sure there isn't any mold, moss or critters on them!
Whip up a batch of Rice Krispies Treats, following the directions on the box of Rice Krispies (you can also use Cocoa Krispies!) You will need some melted white chocolate, or you can use melted milk chocolate - again, whatever powers your broom. 8 oz. of white chocolate made 12 treats, but as you can see, my treats were cut quite large, so cut yours to the size you want, whatever chills your corpse.
Dip the bottoms and a bit up all sides in white chocolate, then immediately dip into Halloween jimmies. Set on an opened cupcake wrapper, insert a nice stick and you've got a great treat for your favorite guys and ghouls.
You can tart them up a bit by "gluing" on a piece of candy corn with some left-over chocolate. Everyone loves Rice Krispie treats...you know you do!
To make these you will need:
12 Rice Krispies Treats
8 oz. white or milk chocolate
4 oz. Halloween jimmies
12 pieces of candy corn
12 cupcake wrappers
12 sticks
Note to self: Make an appointment with the dentist.
