Wendy, aka the Blond Bombshell, has become quite the little quilter...what an upstart! She popped over a few weeks back to show me her Umbrella Quilt - which is perfect for her as she is one of those rare Seattle Natives that no one ever meets!
Look how beautiful her machine applique is! She did such a great job and I love how her umbrella's twist and turn! Just so you know, no one in Seattle really uses umbrellas...only tourists and newly transplanted Microsofties...anyone who has lived here for more than one monsoon season know it's futile to mess with umbrellas and a waste of time. It's like wearing glasses to read...they're on, then they're off, on and off over and over...with umbrellas they are up and then down, up and down over and over as it never really pours rain here but just spits.
Unless you're having an extremely great hair day, you just don't use an umbrella...and just to be clear, anyone who lives in the Northwest never has great hair days. Check out the border on Wendys quilt...little rain boots!! And her border fabric is umbrellas! She did such a great job on this quilt - and since copying someone is the most sincere form of flattery (?) I feel the need to flatter Wendy to the highest by copying her quilt for myself!
This is just the top/flimsy, so it's not quilted yet, but I know I'm going to love it even more when it's quilted and bound. It's just about as cute as can be - just like Wendy herself!
