Our little quilt group had a sew day a while back - we made quilt tops that will be donated to American Hero Quilts - and at our quilt meeting last week most of those tops made an appearance - some are still being worked on - it's just amazing what scraps can do!
Helen put this top together - I love the simplicity of the blocks - and the border is the icing on top...now about the border...it's pieced. Let me say it again...it's pieced!!! Each little strip of red and white were sewn together (and pressed!!!)...yes, Helen IS crazy...but crazy in such a good way!
Barbara pieced this top - I love how the blocks are arranged - solid fabric blocks are sewn together iwth striped blocks and stars - very effective, no? Wish I could find some of that blue star fabric!
Everyone participated in some way - either by making blocks ahead of time or by sewing them together or cutting or ironing...or all of the above! These "orphan" blocks found a home in this top that Stephanie put together...it still needs a border as American Hero Quilts need to be large enough for a man to wrap up in.
Not a great shot of this quilt because it's much bigger than this makes it look - I'm not sure who worked on this one - probably Denise? It's beautiful - don't you just love those stars?!
This is the top I made - with a lot of help! Barbara made the stars which were so beautifully sewn together - points matching and all that! I was able to get this finished the day we worked on them because I had help from Diane and Janice -thank you! I like this top so much that I'm making one for myself!
Just realized I spent more time talking at quilt group than taking notes - so I have no idea who put this top together...but I love the different stars and pinwheels - someone is really going to love this quilt!
This is another beauty!! Love the stars and stripes! Terry sewed this one together...I know I say this about each one but this one is my favorite!! Sorry the bottom of this quilt got cut off in the picture, it's the same as the top - more star blocks.
The quilt to the left was pieced by Kareena and Lori - some new-fangled technic they read about that said they could have a top pieced in 33 minutes...not! They used a Jelly Roll and sewed strips end to end, with a fussy cut star block in between, and there was some "strategic" cutting involved but I can't remember what it was!
This is one of my favorites - love the simplicity of the design and the big star border!
On the wall behind is the quilt we made for The Happy Valley Grange - they have it displayed year round - it was so nice to walk in there and see our quilt! We love The Grange!

These pinwheel quilts (above and below) were made by Helen and I think I heard her say she was going to hand-quilt them! They both received many oohs and aahs - just plain wonderful!
Helen was on some kind of red, white and blue kick! You should know, she does not use patterns, she just wings it!
Helen also brought in two quilts that she made years ago, keeping with our red, white and blue theme! The quilt on the right was a group round robin - it was fun to see this quilt that was made so long ago - like seeing an old friend!
Ardith made this striking quilt a while back - I made her bring it out to show us. She made one for American Hero Quilts just like it for a female veteran...something a little more feminine. The quilting in this is wonderful, too, Terry did it and it's as close to perfect as you can get!
These two quilts tops were made by Terry - the Sock Monkey quilt will be for her grand-daughter and the red-work top is almost done...click on the picture for a larger pic - her stitching is just amazing!! And there is SO much of it! Nicely done Terry!
The twins to the left were made by Lori for her grand-daughters - don't you just love those big border prints?! Sweet!!
This looks a lot larger...it's really a small baby quilt but Kareena, our resident Aussie, is going to put on another border so it's not quite finished. Actually, this quilt was supposed to be bigger but Kareena didn't read the part about enlarging the pattern pieces until after she had paper-pieced all those darling koalas! She made this for her new grandson who hasn't arrived yet - but by the time he does this will be quilted and ready to wrap him in!
