Just another reminder of why one shouldn't sew at night...when half the brain is mildly engaged and the other half is asleep...
Geese flying in all different directions, some darks in top corners, some in bottom...oh what a mess! I only have about another hour of unsewing before I can sew again...some days it sucks to be me! This is my fabric from Nice, France...it's linen and I only have eight 12x40-inch strips...I told the French lady I wanted a yard of each fabric and she cut 12-inches of each...but charged me for a yard each. I cannot bring myself to tell you what I paid for this fabric...remember, I don't do math, so IF it said $27 euros per meter then I might have thought it was $2.70 per yard...or something equally as ridiculous. However, I was thrilled with my purchase, thinking I had eight yards of fabric to play with...it wasn't until I had been home for THREE MONTHS that I even unwrapped the pretty-lace-bow-tied fabric and looked at it...and then, after my heart began pumping again, I looked at the receipt and discovered I WAS charged for eight yards worth. After many, many, many back and forth emails with the shop in Nice, she refunded me the amount I was overcharged (she had to manually check each bolt of fabric to see how much was there and then go back through all of her hand-written receipts to determine if she had actually charged me the wrong amount compared to the fabric that was sold and to the fabric that was left on the bolt...thankfully she kept detailed records of every transaction, writing down the fabric name and the yardage...finally she realized her mistake...and I can live to eat another day!)
Speaking of France...the mister and I were traipsing down a street in Paris, slurping up the last of our gelato, when we came upon a linen shop. When the mister is on vacation he is all about sure...as in,"Sure, get it!" or "Sure, why not?!" or, "Sure, we're on vacation!" So when I spied this tablecloth I thought it would look great in our kitchen and true to form, the mister said, "Sure! Get it!" The drop of the cloth has linen pockets, where the napkins can go...or maybe some fun toys for kids...or candy or whatever...I thought it was brilliant! It had it's debut last week when my neighbors came to lunch (we have two new families who have moved in who are breathing new life into our street!)
Oh, just so you know, the sure thing the mister does? It's only when he's on vacation...and when he's not, that word never crosses his lips! Moving on...the weatherman said we might get snow tonight - but I've already made the mind-shift from winter to spring. I pulled out my vintage handkerchief runner and put it on my dining room table - to brighten things up - a touch of yellow this time of year works wonders for gray-sky-rain-soaked-Seattleites who spend more times indoors than they would like...playing with Legos...
