Pinterest is going to be the death of me...oh, not because I stay up till all hours of the night pinning crappola onto my boards...but because I spend every waking minute trying to find enough time in my day to make the things I see on Pinterest! I barely have time to cook, bake, quilt or Christmas shop as it is and now Pinterest is starting to take huge slice of my time! I'm probably just a day or two away from an intervention, but in the meantime, I'm going to scratch one more off my Pinterest To Do List...
Look at this great set of silverware I found at Value Village, $7.50 for the entire 5-piece service for 12!! At Ace Hardware I asked a member of their crack-staff how to attach the spoons and forks to my chandelier...I was advised to use double-sided tape. I was not sure it was strong enough to hold the forks and spoons so after getting them all on the chandelier, I put a couple of coats on top of the table so if they fell during the night they wouldn't chip or break anything. But in the morning they were all still there...it's been several days now and they're still hanging tight!
My big fear is that when my book club comes to lunch the ladies will be feasting away and a fork will fall into someone's soup or worse, their head! Maybe I should give everyone a padded helmet when they sit down around the table and boxing gloves...I'm really hoping the Ace guy knew what he was talking about and they stay in place.
The mister was not amused. He said it's only a matter of time before the entire light comes crashing down from the weight of the silverware. Oh he of little faith. I love it. I love the whimsy of it and I cannot look at it without smiling. When my little friend Emily spied it she said, "Whoa Nan, that's fly!" And fly it is.
This is one of many incarnations my kitchen chandelier has had and this might not be the last. I may add more silverware, fill it in solid around the base of each light - I can't decide just yet if it's finished or not - maybe when the Christmas decorations come off I'll add a few more...what do you think?

Update: Turns out the double stick tape, recommended by the "expert" at Ace, did NOT work so well! I walked into the kitchen yesterday to find several pieces of silverware on the table/floor...so back to Ace I stormed! I explained to a much more knowledgeable Ace person what had transpired and he took a few minutes to ponder my situation and decided I needed ornament hooks and Gorrila Epoxy...which is stronger than Gorilla Glue.
By winding the ornament hooks around my pliers, I was able to make a pretty nice little hook with a bigger surface for it to adhere to the silverware. I mixed the Gorilla Epoxy according to the directions and allowed the hooks to set for 90 minutes and then they were ready to hang...it was what I should have done in the first place.
Now the silverware can easily be removed from the chandelier, if I ever want to do that, which I won't, but the hooks will probably never come off the silverware...epoxy is pretty much atomic glue. So, the moral of the story is this...if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right...the first time...and if you happen to run into the mister, please don't mention this, as he still thinks the double stick tape is working...and what he doesn't know is a good thing! Helmets no longer needed.
