When our quilt group met in July, there were only 7 of us there so we were a bit subdued...when we met the last Friday in August, everyone was there and it was a bit of a free-for-all! We all seem to talk at the same time, it's a cat rodeo in a quilt show! But oh so fun!
Claudia's quilt, above left, is ginormous! It would fit a king size bed and then some and she made it for her daughter to take with her to college...where it will cover more than one dorm bed! The quilt on the right is Denise's, it was a "mystery quilt" and it's not nearly as huge as Claudia's! Both of these quilts had a wonderful soft feel to them - and the quilting on them was wonderful.
This is Janet's wonderful quilt - looks difficult, no? Apparently it's not...you start with three strips of fabric sewn together lengthwise and that's the basis of this quilt - it sounded so easy I might even be able to make this! The pattern is called Boullabaisse - nice work Janet!
Helen has worked her magic again! She hand-quilted her circle quilt - and her circles were hand-appliqued...it's a beaut! And then she made this scrappy quilt - dang scrap-happy!
These Christmas gift blocks were all made by Helen - who, as you know, is somewhat of a mad-scientist with color and creativity...in my next life I shall be her! Helen showed us some of her gift blocks a few months back and we all loved them so much we decided to make some as a group project. The blocks above are ones Helen has been making for herself...smokin' cute! We exchanged blocks at our meeting, here's a pic of the blocks the rest of us made:
They will make a super cute quilt! Now, one more thing about these blocks...I have a little something up my sleeve for you...I have a Christmas Gift Block tutorial coming up soon - so you'll have plenty of time to make Christmas gifts for your friends and family!
Denise found those darling embroidered "chefs" at a thrift store and sewed them into a table runner! I love the fabric she found to go with those blocks!
Marsha brought in her group quilt again - this time it is all sewn together and we offered up our humble opinions on whether she needed to put a border on it or not...we gave her about a dozen different suggestions! Good luck Marsha! Now, I can't remember who's quilt is pictured above right...I wrote it down but can't read my notes...must be Terry's, it looks perfect enough!
The quilt above was made by another Marsha, not in our group, but she gave her top to Stephanie to give to Terry to be quilted...so as long as it was at our meeting we thought we should have a look! We all love this quilt - simple and sweet! Marsha has a zillion boys, maybe a dozen, I have no idea, I only know there's a bunch and she has one daughter, Monica, so she made this quilt for her - lucky girl!
Another wonderful quilt - and I have no idea who made this one either! Maybe Barbara? Terry? Well whoever, it's great! How can one not love a pinwheel quilt?!
Now I do know that Barbara made this bookshelf quilt, at least I think so! It's so great - and so fun to pick out all of the details she sewed into it...like the aquarium and the book names and the picture frame - nice job!
When Lori and I went to Houston for Quilt Market we met Janice Pope. Janice stopped by our booth to visit and invited us to dinner at Mamma Ninfa's - which was almost the highlight of my Market experience! Janice and Lori have kept in touch so when Janice flew out to Seattle from North Carolina, she called Lori and we met for lunch - it was great seeing her again. Then Janice came to our quilt meeting - I'm sure she was shell-shocked by the time she left! But she was a good sport and even brought a quilt to show! Above is her circle quilt - and above right is one of the bags she makes, it's called the Two Hour Tulip Purse and it's very clever! You can see all of Janice's patterns by visiting her website: Anything But Boring.
These are the blocks I made for our exchange...I have been busy beavering away on a Gift Block Tutorial for ya'll...I can hardly wait to show you what you can do with gift blocks, besides putting them in a quilt! It will be up soon so you'll have plenty of time to make Christmas gifts for your friends and family!
That's it for this month - it's always a great time/show and I always leave our meeting feeling motivated to get into the nerve center and get to work! And wouldn't you know it - summer finally arrived in the Northwest for REAL...highs in the 80's and maybe even a 90 or two this week! So I might have to wait another week to start sewing again...it's too nice to be indoors!
