In a moment of weakness I invited six 8-year old turkeys over to my house for a Thanksgiving party. When I regained my faculties I decided my house was very UN-Thanksgiving-ish for a kid T-day party, as I normally speed straight from Halloween into Christmas, bypassing T-day altogether. To help set the stage, I made a Thanksgiving banner...stealing the idea from a Pottery Barn Kids catalog a few years back:
Scraps of felt and wool, leaf buttons, ric-rac, hem-tape and embroidery floss whipped up into an adorable banner, if I do say so myself!
As you can see, it hangs across the front of my kitchen cabinet - I just love it! Banners are so easy to make; I have a friend who doesn't sew (I know, how bizarre!) and she makes banners out of decorative papers - they are the cutest things I've ever seen! So don't let not having the right fabric stop YOU from creating your own T-day banner - heck, you could even use layers of newspaper and paint the letters on - how cute would that be?!
The T-day party is tomorrow - which leaves me with 24 hours to gird up my loins, steal my nerves, polish my armour...before the little turkeys arrive...wish me luck! If you have any great Thanksgiving party ideas please send them to me pronto!
