The last quilt meeting of the summer! Which is a good thing because next month everyone should be back in town with plenty to show. We did see some spectacular quilts, even though our numbers were few, so let's get started!
Helen has been into hand work lately - this table runner is beautifully hand-quilted - I love the end borders of pieced houses - it's one of her "signatures."
Dawn is putting on her annual Play For Pink Golf Tournament soon, which raises money for breast cancer research. She is always trying to figure out new ways to make money and this year she decided to make, among other things, packages of holiday pillowcases that will be auctioned off. The Thanksgiving pillowcase is my favorite!
This is just a tease photo - Marsha has been working on her hexagons for TEN YEARS! She is now done with the hexies themselves and is working on the white hexagon sashing...won't be long now! I think you can see from her fabrics that when this quilt is finished it's going to be one of those old-fashioned-looking-yummy-quilts that makes us all sigh with amazement. Note to Marsha: You have too many daughters and daughter-in-laws and they will all be fighting over this when it's done...best to be safe and pass it straight to me, your favorite 2nd cousin - I promise to take excellent care of it and I'll even let your daughters and DIL's come and view it, on special viewing days - and touching will only be allowed, in 30 second intervals, after they put on hermetically sealed masks, white gloves and robes!
Above is Dawn's Play For Pink quilt that the group helped make...this one turned out especially nice. Creams and whites and all different shades of pink...what's not to love?! I hope know this will raise a bundle for breast cancer - Dawn, you're my hero!
Dawn brought in this stunner...just look at all of those fabrics! I think she said she used TWO charm packs! This is her version of the infamous circle quilt - only she made her circles with reverse applique. The circles are pieced, then she cuts out a circle from the white block, pressing and clipping the edges under, then sews the circle to the block...seems like a lot of work to me but it was certainly worth it!
This is fabric Dawn brought in to make us envious...she found it at Esther's on Bainbridge Island. IF anyone is going to Bainbridge soon will you pick me up 4 yards?!? I think I need this for a quilt backing...love, love, love it!
After all of the beautiful quilts, this little beauty was the star of the show! Meet Kathryn, Denise's granddaughter! She dropped by to eat lunch with us - just look at those big eyes! Kathryn is 9 months old and doesn't suffer fools...she was not thrilled that I stuck a camera in her face 5 seconds after coming through the door - I tried to catch a pic of her smiling but missed every one! She is the light of her Grandma's life - something I totally get!
That's it for this month - August is over, Summer is gone, Quilting Season/Fall is on the way! And there are only 116 days till Christmas! Just thought you'd like to know!
