I love all things French...French bread, chocolat eclairs, cassoulet, quiche Lorraine, escargot...kidding, I've eaten ONE snail in my life and that was enough for me! I do love France though - I've been there twice - once with the mister - we marched through Paris like the US Army on D-Day - in and out in three days...and once with my sister where we spent a week in Toulouse, eating everything in sight and ever thankful we didn't have to be weighed before boarding our flight home. Every time I see an Eiffel Tower in miniature, I buy it. I even have a "Paris" bathroom - where my collection of Eiffel Towers reside. As I like to say, one hasn't lived until one has pottied in Paris. Feel free to quote me.
What I really love about France, however, is the fabric! French fabric, Southern French fabric especially, is vibrant, bright and colorful...and it just makes me happy. Free quilts also make me happy - so imagine just how happy I am with my new FREE FRENCH QUILT!!! First, let me show you what I used to help me keep things in order...these handy-dandy pieces of plastic, pinned to each row so I didn't confuse myself - available in your local quilt shops.
Over six months ago I purchased a packet of 5-inch squares of different French fabrics...anything that sits in your stash for over six months then becomes FREE...no matter how much you paid for it. The red fabric truly was free...when we were soliciting items to sell at the American Hero Quilts Show in 2009, a lady called and said she had fabric. When I went to pick it up I discovered it really wasn't "fabric" but drapes - but they were decidedly French drapes and therefore I took them, thinking one day I just might cut them up...and so I did.
Just look at this and tell me you're not happy - it's impossible, I know! I know! I just love it to pieces...but now I have a dilemma...
Now, do I finish the edges and use it as a tablecloth or do I finish it as a quilt...eat off it or wrap up in it...such a hard choice...
Love it, love it, love it! The flimsy will now go to my "finish pile" where it will be allowed to properly age before it is completed, either as a table cloth or a quilt. Wish it worked differently, but quilting is all about TIME. The sun is out in Seattle!!! I'm going to go outside and play - hope you can, too!
