I think we had all of our group members at our meeting - a rare occurrence but so fun because we had SO many quilts! Sit back, relax and enjoy the show!
Dawn made the quilt above left, and it is MAMMOTH! It's 106" x 118"! She told us she recently bought a 2nd home in Palm Dessert, CA, so naturally we all assumed it was so we could have quilting retreats there! We'll wait until she orders and sets up machines for us before buying our tickets! It's a beautiful quilt - but here's the back story: Dawn is color blind so she needs help in picking fabrics that go together. After she had the fabric for her center block she purchased a bag of "ends" for the sash blocks! Ends are pieces that go together but are really just scraps! She is a genius with quilts whether she can see what color they are or not! The quilt on the right above is Stephanie's - made for a friend's baby boy. I think she proves that all greens go together.
Lori's shoes were a hit! Two dogs sitting side by side - we loved them! Claudia brought in another huge quilt for us to ogle...made with Kaffe fabrics and she quilted it beautifully!
Marsha finished her red, white and blue circle quilt for her new grandson, set to arrive some time in April. Denise is way ahead of the pack, she's already working on Christmas gifts! She made these adorable stitched and framed pictures...perhaps one or two of them will be part of our gift exchange in December?!?
Ardith brought in a W.I.P. She started with a center medallion and is working on building borders around it - it's a quilt for her grandson. Terry showed us her chicken quilt - sewn so beautifully and look how clever she finished off the back! That girl puts me to shame! I just love everything she does...of course, it should go without saying but what the heck, in my next life I'm going to be her.
Above is a quilt I started last May when I went on a little get-away (the 28-mile long garage sale) and needed a portable project. I'm very happy with how it turned out - and I love the backing. I was saving the alphabet fabric to go on the back of a quilt for Baby Max, but he ONLY likes afghans! The 12 quilts I've already made him just sit piled up in his closet! Speaking of Baby Max...he's been a bit under the weather, but just look at his sweet face...he's trying so hard to be happy!
Take your time with Max...your eyes must need a break from all the quilts...but when you're ready to move on, sigh, the quilt top to the right of Max is actually our group project. We all made 4 blocks from scraps and Barbara will now sew these blocks together for a quilt for American Hero Quilts. We're going to do this every month for this year.
Helen wowed us all with her quilts - I don't know how she gets so many done! Pictured above left is a very sweet quilt she is going to give to her sister-in-law. In the middle is one Helen hand-appliqued using Kaffe fabrics on shott cotton and the quilt top on the right is her latest version of the circle quilt. Oohs and aahs all around!
Nice boot! This is another of Helen's, just squares but look at all the movement!
Lori made the "frog" quilt above for her new grandson and added some darling yarn on the border - something for him to play with. She made this adorable Valentine quilt and also embroidered on a dish towel and turned it into a Valentine apron! Sew fun!
The Aussie, who learned to quilt last summer before she moved to China, sent her two bird quilts to Lori to be quilted...so we had to see them! Sorry they're upside down, just stand on your head for a moment to get the correct view. She is giving these quilts to her sisters for Christmas along with new picnic baskets because everyone picnics at Christmas time in Australia! For a beginner she sure did a great job!
This is Dawn's quilt that she made for her friend's birthday - her friend has seen it and just loves it and how could she not?! It's quite wonderful!
That's it ladies...it was a great show followed by great food and then a trip to a fabric store...where we did our best to help the local economy. My apologies for the poor photographs and a big thank you to Marsha!
