In less than 5 hours we were able to finish EIGHT quilt tops for American Hero Quilts...EIGHT! And that includes time for cutting, piecing and ironing, which you know I think is highly unnecessary! At one point even I broke down and ironed a seam or two...just to keep the natives happy, otherwise I'd never be caught dead ironing pieces of a quilt! We had 20 women at our peak, but for most of the time there were about 16 women sewing, cutting and ironing like crazy!
Helen brought in the top shown on the left - already completed and we all loved it so we adapted her design into the quilts we made. (One quilt top was taken home to be finished so I don't have a picture of that one...which makes 9 total!) We had donated fabric to use - and since we needed to get as many tops done as possible we went with simple designs. All of the quilts measure 63x81-inches with 9-inch blocks.
We all loved how a simple star block could change the quilts so much!
If you aren't familiar with American Hero Quilts then please take a minute and check out their website - the quilts that are given monthly to returning injured soldiers and Marines are wonderful - and who better to wrap up in a quilt made with love?
