Turkeys have been on my brain lately...but now I'm done with turkeys until the 26th! These were mighty fun turkeys though...I saw a picture of turkey place-mats in the Pottery Barn catalog and decided I needed them...but I wanted to make them...and so I did - and now, five years later, they are finished! Now IF I ever have small children at my Thanksgiving table, I'll be able to use these...in the meantime I feel quite certain that the mister will enjoy them immensely - you know how he just LOVES "crap" like this!
I made 8 of them and while I HATE making the same thing over and over, these were fun...and I didn't really mind until I finished the 7th...then that last one took me F O R E V E R !
There was a free pattern for these on line - click here to see it. But do yourself a favor and read through the ENTIRE thing first...I cut out the feet from fabric, stitched them and turned them and it took a very long time...THEN I read that ultra suede was suggested for the feet! No turning! Would have saved me a lot of frustration! There is batting under the body of the turkey but the "feathers" don't' have anything between them. They are all lined and could be reversible (although they are just plain on the back side) if someone were to spill gravy on them!
Baby Max will love his new turkey plates, don't you think? And he needed the Beany Baby turkey, too...needed it! I found the turkey plates at Joann Fabrics...I just got him a couple - one to throw and one to toss...he's excellent at throwing things.
Naturally Baby Max needed something to wear! I looked high and low to find a plain brown turtleneck or sweatshirt - but the above was the closest I could find...it had an applique of a green dinosaur on it so I just machine-appliqued over the dinosaur...the turkey is much cuter. This little apron was a real find at a garage sale last spring...I'm sure it will come down to Max's ankles but he can wear it as a "body bib!"
