We met at Denise's home, she lives in the woods - deer greeted me when I arrived! Denise said they see cougars and bears walking through their back yard! The LAST group project for the year is finally finished!! Our quilt group has held two quilt shows at this wonderful old grange near where we live - The Happy Valley Grange. The Grange is celebrating it's 100th year anniversary this Sunday so to thank them for their many kindnesses to our group, we made the Grange a quilt. Pictured above is the wonderful label Helen made for the back of the quilt - which is pictured on the right above. Helen prints her labels from her computer - very professional looking...but then she told us about the label tape she's seen at various places on line...so her label-making days may be a thing of the past! You can see all kinds of label tapes and ribbons by clicking here and here and here.
Sorry about the blurry picture! This is the finished Grange Quilt...Thanks to Helen and Stephanie who put this together - reworking many of the strips to fit (most of us can't do math!) and adding the black and white strips in between the blocks to make it more cohesive...and a big thank you to Barbara Jackson who donated the quilting on this for us! This really is great in person...really! We hope the "Grangers" will hang this quilt on the wall in the Grange and that it will be there for another hundred years!
Take a close look at this quilt in progress...it belongs to Barbara - she does the most incredible work! Raw edge applique with pieces that have been pinked - it's beautiful - Barbara has one more border to add before she quilts it!
Barbara brought in two other flimsies/flymsy's/flimsy's/tops(!) that she is working on. You all remember Moda's Paris Flea Market, right? These are from that line of fabric - Barbara made the one pictured below on the left and when she was finished she wasn't crazy about the green posts...look closely, you'll see them...so she made another quilt without the green! She is a perfectionist - and I mean that in a good way! We all loved the one WITH the posts - but really, they are both wonderful!
This quilt is HUGE!!! Bigger than KING SIZE HUGE!! Ardith is back into quilting is a big way...she called me one day to ask how many borders were too many...at that time she had 8 or 9 already sewn on...she did not take my advice when I told her to stop (and self medicate) and continued adding borders until she had an even dozen! I'm so glad she didn't listen to me - this is a wonderful quilt and it was beautifully quilted by Carol Ann Snow!
Ardith also showed us her red, white and blue...and told us how she asked Terry, who was going on a road trip, to keep her eye out for blue and white toille...Terry found the floral border fabric and called Ardith who told her to buy it...she probably said, "BUY IT ALL!" She's known for saying things like that! Her blocks are Stars of Hope - this one really wowed us!
Helen's "9-patch"...amazing, isn't it? It's all quilted and just yummy. Helen doesn't quite like the white in her quilt but we poo-pooed her...we love it!
Here's a close up of a block in Helen's quilt - just look at all those fabrics! She loves color...and so does Stephanie who brought in her scrappy "ugly-fabric" block to show us what she is working on...I think I may have shown this before but those fabrics are so ugly they DESERVE a second look! I know I will love Stephanie's quilt when it's done so I feel safe calling it names now...and besides, I'm used to eating my words.
Pictured on the left is the back and front of Marsha's quilt. She used the 9-patches from one of our group projects and sewed them together to get an old-fashioned-homey-cabin-feel-of-a-quilt...whew! Marsha, who's heart is as big as they come, is donating this quilt for an auction to raise money for the Kirkland Performance Center. And lastly, pictured above on the right is a small quilt Denise made - it's paper-pieced and perfect. That's it! Another great meeting followed by an even better lunch!
