There are three basic kinds of butter...regular, salted butter, the kind most of us buy and use on a daily basis...and then there is unsalted butter, the kind we buy for certain recipes...and then, my friends, there is French butter...the taste of which, when spread on a piece of thick, crusty bread, cannot be equaled! French butter is butter that has been whipped with Fleur de Sel added to it - a lot of Fleur de Sel...which, for you non-French speaking peeps is salt! Crunchy bits of salt - yes, big enough to crunch - and they linger just a bit on the tongue before dissolving into a taste explosion in your mouth. French butter is not for the weak...the medically fragile...or the tactially challenged...oh no...it's only for those of you who WANT extreme flavor in every bite!
You need two ingredients to make French Butter...Unsalted butter and Fleur de Sel. I usually start with 1 1/2 sticks of butter, softened, and then I whip it with my electric mixer until it is light and fluffy. Then I stir in 1 tablespoon of Fleur de Sel - that's it!
Spoon it into a crock and serve with crusty bread - but be warned - it is HIGHLY addictive!
