Our monthly gathering of the Sew Whats was almost a record of sorts...everyone was there but two, and almost everyone had new quilts to show! I'm going to introduce the group and their quilts to you so sit back, relax and enjoy the show - there are some really wonderful quilts here...you'll also see a few more of the Lost Socks quilts as our members are getting theirs done and more of the now infamous Circle Quilt...Christmas circles and Halloween circles... we just can't seem to get enough of them! Click on the pictures for a larger view.
The two top left quilts are going to be raffled off in a Play for Pink Golf Tournament this coming week, Dawn has made raffle quilts for this charity event for years and always makes great money for this great cause. We're very proud of you Dawn! The Lost Socks quilt in the center above also belongs to Dawn. She sent this off to her connection in Arkansas to be machine quilted, twin-size with batting was $80.00 - such a great deal! The next two quilts belong to Claudia - her "Baskin-Robbin's" quilt is from a charm pack and the Bowties is a Kaffe Fassett pattern... Claudia does the most intricate quilts and all of them are HUGE!
The quilt on the left, above, is another of Claudia's masterpieces...it's probably King-size and it's a Kaffe pattern, it's half-triangles sewn together in strips - pretty amazing in person. The next picture is of Claudia's new quilt bag, with a different pieced block on each side and the center shot shows the inside of the bag where there is room for all of her quilting supplies - very cool! Halloween circles - one of our favorite quilts to make and see - both of these belong to Barbara, who is a painstakingly perfect sewer! She had so many circles left she had to make a second quilt - check out the borders on these quilts!
Now we come to another of our "over-achiever's"...Marsha...the first four quilts pictured above are hers...the first one, which is enormous, was made for her daughter and son-in-law - it's really beautiful. The next one is a 9-patch baby quilt followed by another 9-patch variation and then her Aunt Gracie quilt, which isn't finished yet but she brought because she wanted some ideas...and she got them...we are not a shy group. The quilt on the far right belongs to Nancy, she made it for her son for Christmas and used little drawings he made when he was a child on the quilt - plus pictures of him when he was younger - it's really a wonderful memory quilt.
Are you still with me? Good...because I've got lots more! Janet made the first three quilts pictured above...her Lost Socks quilt, her circle Christmas quilt and then this beautiful black and gold trip around the world-type quilt, done with rectangles. Janet claims to be new at quilting...whatever! Stephanie, the artist in the group, produced the next two...her Christmas quilt is bordered with large green squares of fabric and the next quilt she calls "Jump In The Pool" and it's made entirely from 3-inch square scraps of fabric, except for the borders. It started out with some donated "ugly fabric" but as you can see it's really beautiful!
The house quilt on the left is Stephanie's...we are going to do a 9-patch exchange and we brought in our 9-patch quilts so everyone could see how versatile the blocks can be...the 2nd from the left is Helen's as is the middle quilt - both made with 9-patch blocks. Next is another pile of Helen's little purses...the picture just doesn't do them justice - they are adorable and I wish she would put them up for sale on ETSY!! The last picture on the right is a bag that Michelle made from her grandma's old quilt - she managed to salvage a few pieces to make this bag.
Only a few more to go...stay with me! Michelle ordered some fabric from Germany, where her daughter is serving a mission, the pink fabric has little shepherds and sheep on it so she used it to make an apron, she calls it "Feed My Sheep" and will give it to her daughter when she returns - it's adorable! Michelle also brought her 9-patch, blocks separated by black sashing - great quilt! The middle quilt belongs to Terry, a brightly colored Rail Fence and the one next to it is hers as well, her "Falling Leaves" which has appliqued acorns on the quilt - it's really beautiful and it's made out of flannels. The quilt on the far right is another of Helen's...little brightly colored scraps sewn into strips and sandwiched between the yellow fabric - it's a stunner.
Last and least...I took my latest halloween creations to show the group, some halloween aprons (the one on the right is going to be given away to a reader very soon...if you haven't entered to win it just send me a comment telling me you want it and you'll be entered!) I made a new halloween banner, out of felt and I'm working on another halloween quilt, pictured in the middle above. The quilt on the right is "The Many Faces of Jack"...just need to add the stems and then it's done!
Whew! That's it! After our "show and tell," Stephanie served us the most delicious lunch of Greek salad, chicken satays with peanut sauce followed by an incredible French chocolate cake she had made for dessert ...with strawberries and cream...maybe she'll share the recipe with us all!? I wish you all could have been there with us - we had such a good time!
Now you can go....but please come back soon!
