My parents have an old Possum-belly table for an island in their kitchen - and it has a copper top. Which, as you know, stains, darkens, and gets marred in a very short time. One way they keep it shiny and new is by cleaning it with ketchup...that's right - ketchup! I remembered this little tidbit the other day while looking at my lone copper-bottom-pot - where the copper was barely visible, I got out my ketchup and gave it a good cleaning.
The ketchup is very acidic and that's what cleans the copper - but the ketchup has to sit for about 20 minutes or so to really do the job. After that, take a cloth and using the ketchup as a paste, rub it around the copper, rinse and repeat on tough spots.
It washed up almost as good as new and now the copper looks like copper!

I'm leaving baby Max today - flying back home to Seattle with a broken heart and half a tongue....leaving Max is so hard to do! I've been biting my tongue all week - like all good grandma's do...I hope I'll still have a bit of my tongue left by the time I get to the age when I can say whatever I want and be excused for it because I'll be old and feeble... but at the rate I'm going I'll be totally tongueless by the time Max is two.
