I thought I was just going to lunch with a few friends to "celebrate" me becoming a Grandma...(no baby yet...tick tock - tick tock - still waiting...) but they surprised me by bringing me GIFTS! Grandma Gifts!! What's ARE grandma giftS? Glad you asked....take a look at this loot!
Toys to keep at Grandma's house...books to read at Grandma's house....and... a brag book for my baby; a set of car keys as all babies love to suck on them; Nivea face cream so I'll smell like a grandma; silver hair clips so my grandma curls will stay in place; a lovely shade of fire-engine red lipstick for me to smear beyond my natural lip line; an antique hankie to wipe that precious nose; a crossword puzzle book - an easy one - thank you - for me to do while my baby naps; bandaids; Juicy Fruit gum to keep in my purse (my grandma always had a pack of Juicy Fruit - I didn't know it was the gum 9 out of 10 grandma's prefer!) Altoids and Life Savers, too; a baby pacifier necklace; a miniature rubber ducky; a toy race car; stickers; confetti for me to toss in the delivery room once he arrives; a finger puppet; a cute candle and holder for me to burn for him when I have to return home; kiddie sunglasses and a very, very sweet framed card - it's a Mary Englebreit painting of a grandma holding a baby and it says....When a child is born, so is a grandma...an old Italian Proverb for this old Italian Grandma!
Doneen came sashaying in fashionably late, even though her own daughter is being induced this very afternoon! She showed up in style, too - wearing a grandma wig, big earrings, the famous red lipstick slightly smeared, her best fur scarf, wool skirt, thick dark hose and proper shoes...She'll probably kill me for showing this picture but it's just too funny...And this picture just doesn't do her "do" justice!
Doneen also wrote and sang me this song...she has the most beautiful voice! It's to the tune of I've Been Working On The Railroad - see if you can sing along!
Nan's been waiting for a grandchild, All the live long day
Nan's been waiting for a grandchild, Now he's a thousand miles away!
Can't you see her with her bags packed? She can't wait to go!
Nan is going to be a grandma...Nan-ette waaaay to goooooo!
Shame on me for not taking pictures of everyone who was there! I LOVED seeing all of you and love that you are so happy for me!! THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU!!!
Note to self: Lyndsey called this morning to say her "mucus plug" fell out...I have no idea what that is but I'm thinking I probably didn't need to know! I'm certain I never had one of those and if I did it certainly wouldn't have fallen out! She saw her doctor this afternoon - she's started to dilate and so finally things are moving! She pushed mom in a wheelchair all over the mall - nothing, not even late term pregnancy can stop a mall rat! Mike bought a new car today - traded in his Jeep, apparently he's not "drinking the Kool-Aid" so I'll have another go at him later...how is he going to support me in my old age if he keeps spending his money?!?
