  • About Fabric...and Quilts....
Being a quilter for over 30 years, I've learned one thing that's for sure (as my good friend Ops - short for Oprah - would say) and that's this: You can't go wrong if you buy too much! You will never be forced to have a "close enough" fabric in a quilt again! I've always said that I make 30-foot quilts - or put another way, quilts that look good from 30 feet away! One day I hope to make "inchers." In the meantime, as I struggle to make points match, I'm happily trying to cover every bed, sofa, and chair in my house with a quilt - that's normal, right? My quilt books can be ordered on line from Leisure Arts at: www.leisurearts.com My children's books can be ordered directly through me, just send me an email: nans17@hotmail.com
  • Ahhhh....food....
We may live without poetry, music and art; We may live without conscience and live without heart; We may live without friends; we may live without books; But civilized man cannot live without cooks. He may live without books, what is knowledge but grieving? He may live without hope, What is hope but deceiving? He may live without love, What is passion but pining? But where is the man that can live without dining? Owen Meredith...or as I like to call him.... The Earl of Sandwich

Wedding Flowers...

Pict1075Emily and Andrew get married today!

Congrats to you both!  There is nothing like a wedding....so much work, so much fun!

These are just a few buckets of the flowers we started with to make Emily and Andrew's flowers for their reception....Having my kitchen filled with flowers was such fun!

Emily provided us with a photo of what she wanted...."us" is Becky - who made the bridal bouquet and the bridesmaids bouquets with help from Doneen, Barbara - the mother of the groom who made corsages and boutineers with Doneen, Lori - who made the guest book arrangement and me - I did the tall ones.

Lots of roses - Queen Anne's Lace, Bells of Ireland, Calla Lilies, Snap Dragons and Lysianthus....so, so pretty!

Pict1078 I just love weddings - love everything about them and I love to help with flowers....probably because I didn't have a wedding - the mister and I just went to City Hall - it was quite funny - we paid our $20 and walked into the judges office, he buzzed for his "girl" to come in to witness the event....he read from some script and every now and then he'd look up and ask us our names - again - and then he pronounced us "husband and wife".....it was 5:00 in the afternoon and City Hall was closing - so we were "hurried out" of the building and having nothing to do, drove through rush-hour traffic to the Hyatt and had our "wedding dinner and reception".....just the two of us - at Hugo's Restaurant...where the waiter took our only "wedding picture" - which constitutes our "wedding album."  Pict1079

The bride's bouquet....so sweet!

Back to my story....since the flowers are now done, it's all about me once again....the mister and I honeymooned in Acapulco....where I promptly came down with an inner ear infection and spent most of my honeymoon writhing in pain...we stayed at the Acapulco Princess and I didn't even get to swim in the pool with the waterfall bar!  When it was time to return to the States - I was both sad and glad....sad that I didn't have any fun and glad that I would finally get some drugs!  I did see a Mexican doctor at the hotel but he only gave me aspirin....where were all the drugs I'd heard about for years?!?!

We boarded our flight back to the US - nothing like an ear infection on a place folks!  To make matters worse, we had to make an emergency landing in Mexico City - something about a fire on board - I didn't care one bit about it - burning up in a plane sounded like a bit of relief from my head exploding from the pain.....they foamed the runway - fire trucks were everywhere - I think the mister was worried about dying in a crash landing....I was looking forward to it.  We walked off the plane into the middle of no where - boarded busses that drove us back to the airport where we had to wait and wait and wait for another flight to Dallas...another flight - another chance for my head to explode....changed planes in Dallas - yet another opportunity for brain disintegration...and on to Memphis....where we drove straight to the emergency room and I finally got some relief.....That is how we started our life together.....do you think it was an omen of what was to come?!?Pict1081_2 Pict1077_3

Above right is the guest book bouquet...made by Lori who claims not to know how to "do" flowers...

Bridesmaid's bouquets....have you ever seen a bridesmaid carry a bouquet for longer than one minute?  They set them down the first chance they get....so they're hands can be free to catch the bouquet!
