This will always be Dawn's quilt, even though it's mine, because Dawn gave me the fabric and most of the blocks when she moved away. That had to be 5 or 6 years ago now, and I let her blocks sit/age until I finally got around to sewing them together, which I think was sometime last year. And then I had to let the quilt top age until it was ripe for quilting...I will quilt no quilt before it's time!
This is a sister quilt to a quilt I made about 20 years ago (pictures below) with fabric purchased in Paris, France. Dawn also purchased her fabric there - about 15 years later and they still had the same fabric! The only quilt shop in Paris is called Le Rouvray, they sell American quilting cottons and only one French toille. Toille means linen but this fabric is 100% quilting cotton, not linen. Parisian quilters want American fabric, American quilters visiting Paris want French fabric and they only get ONE choice! But it is beautiful fabric and as you can clearly see, timeless!
Dawn knew I had used the same fabric, so she knew I would love her blocks...and I DO!!! I'm so sorry it took me so long to finish!
I backed the quilt with this alphabet print, which matched the red perfectly - I have no idea where I got this, found it in my stash one day when I was looking for something else!
I haven't decided where this quilt will go yet - maybe on the chair so I can grab it easily when I want to sit back and relax or maybe I'll keep it under the table with my other red quilts - I like seeing them stacked up!
Orrrrrr just maybe I'll leave it tossed over the sofa for Rosie to admire...she doesn't like quilts, she prefers her minky blanket, which is fine with me! Isn't she just the cutest little thing? Oh how we love her! She RULES our lives, all 8 1/2 pounds of her!
THANK YOU DAWN!!! This is my new favorite quilt - I love everything about it but mostly I love that it's from you and that it's finally finished!!
