I don't think my 91 year old friend would object to me calling her vintage - after all, she is 91 and she has seen and lived through the most amazing things life has offered up - making her highly collectible! Venna has been my dear friend and neighbor for over 15 years now - and I treasure the time we get to spend together - visiting with her in her home is like a therapy session for me! We talk and laugh and Venna knows so much history it's always a treat to chat with her! Her home is calm, serene and always neatly appointed - and Venna is just like her home - except she has a great sense of humor!
A few years back I was at a quilt show and spotted some orphan blocks for sale. When I picked them up and looked through them, they all reminded me of Venna - traditional, colorful and valuable. So with Venna in mind, I bought the blocks and then let them "age" appropriately, (let them sit on my to-do pile until I could find the time to sew them together!) and now the blocks have been pieced together into a quilt and it's finally finished! I was hoping to have it done by Venna's birthday last June, so I'm only 5 months late...and in my world, that's almost on time!
The quilt top was lightly tea-dyed, to allow for the blocks to have the same soft colors - I think it turned out pretty good, considering some of those fabrics are "interesting!"
This is just a lap-sized quilt - something for Venna to cover up with when she's reading her latest health-food book! Venna watches what she eats and exercises every day - even does her own yard work! She puts me and half the women I know to shame!
Venna, I love you and wish you a very Happy Belated Birthday!
