Mock Champagne For Mother's Day...
T
he mister and I went shopping today...yes, curious isn't it...and while I was trying to decide if I should get the pajamas or the nightgown he said....and I quote....GET BOTH OF THEM....my heart skipped a beat waiting for the sound of trumpets and angels declaring the end of the world - followed, of course, by an earthquake, tsunami and a mass infiltration of alien beings, in that order...surely he didn't say to get them both?!? Well, I didn't hesitate, I had them up to the counter and rung up so fast he didn't have time to rethink his very out-of-character comment! And no, I was not purchasing "that kind of lingerie" which if I was then I could understand him telling me to buy two - understand but still not believe - I simply was buying regular old PJ's and a flannel nightgown...Victoria and her secret were no where to be found.
I would have suggested to the mister that we go celebrate the loosening of his purse strings with a mocktail but I didn't want to push my luck...instead, we came home and I made us mocktails. The mister is a "fully-leaded" kind of guy so he laughed when I handed him this pretty pink drink...but when he realized that was all he was getting he drank it and even licked his lips afterwards. My mom gave me this recipe, called it Mock Champagne and so it is.
I'm toasting to all of you mom's on Mother's Day...and I hope it's a good one!
A MOCKTAIL will whet your lips, keep pounds off your hips, and prevent the sinking of ships...so drink to yourself, to your mom, and your kids, and shake your little booty...because after your done, that's the end of the fun...you will be back on DUTY!
Mock Champagne - Adapted from a FOX TV show my mom saw
1/2 cup pomegranate/cranberry (Ocean Spray makes one) juice
1/2 cup Fresca
1 Mentos candy...yes, Mentos. It will fizz, making bubbles, giving the effect of champagne...the pomegranate in the juice makes it "dry" and the cranberry juice makes it sweet...the picture makes it look like the fizz is white - it's not - it's just fizzy....and believe it or not, it was pretty darn close to the real thing...not that I'd know.

My mom has left me with the duty of hand quilting a quilt I just made. As much as I begged her she said she wouldn't do it for me and said if I needed help, I had to ask you. So. next time I come to Sam. I may stop by for a short lesson!
